Hello Everyone! We're about to get started.

We got a lot of great questions on the blog asking about how we choose the music we play and how it may be different from when The Current started. I'd like to start by talking about how we pick the music we play.

We receive music each week in the mail and electronically from local and national bands, labels and promotion companies from across the country.

The music programming team of Program Director Jim McGuinn, Assistant PD Lindsay Kimball and myself sift through the music we receive each week. We also collaborate with our on-air hosts about the music they've heard and want to play. And then we collectively pick new music for airplay.

I gotta say that I was excited BEFORE the current started up at the prospects of having a local radio station that actually cared about the local music community... but really, it kinda just turned into a Rev105 revival. I feel like the station had the opportunity to champion local/regional artists but failed miserably and instead chose to focus on things happening "across the pond" and other mediocre acts that are, in my opinion, just indie-pop-culture hype. There's enough GREAT local music in minnesota that a whole station could be devoted to championing the artists we already have. If I want to hear the Foo Fighters, I can hear them anywhere.
